Extra wild cards coming to MLB playoffs
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Major League Baseball, after month-long
negotiations with the players union, will finalize the 2012 postseason
format as soon as Thursday, expanding the playoffs by two teams.
"We'll
have an answer in the next couple of days,'' Michael Weiner, executive
director of the Major League Players Association, told USA TODAY on

The theory that induced abortion increases the risk of breast cancer has been studied for decades and is a controversial one -- and one that is contested by major medical organizations.

Polo Club Founder Adopts Girlfriend Amid Civil Suit Over DUI Death
A wealthy Florida polo club founder has adopted his longtime adult
girlfriend in what attorneys believe may be a legal maneuver to protect
his financial assets as he faces a trial for a drunk driving incident
that killed a 23-year-old.
John Goodman, 48, formally adopted Heather Laruso Hutchins, 42, in
October 2011. The couple started dating in 2009. Goodman is the founder
of the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Fla.
Egypt football violence has killed 74 spectators, military planes rescue players and injured
AT least 74 people were killed in fan violence after a football match in the city of Port Said, the health ministry said, as Egypt struggled with a wave of incidents linked to poor security.

Teenager who had Djokovic shirt snatched away speaks out against thief
The teenage girl who had Novak Djokovic's shirt stolen from her grasp on Sunday is speaking out against the middle-aged garment thief who grabbed the souvenir.
Melissa Cook, 14, had a front-row seat cheering on Djokovic during his epic victory over Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final. When the world No. 1 finally defeated Nadal after five hours, 53 minutes, Cook managed to get his attention as he was changing clothes. Djokovic walked over to Cook to toss her a spare shirt, but it was grabbed instead by a woman sitting two seats away.Tuesday, January 31, 2012
