An improving job market is reflected in stronger numbers on hiring and employment status

WASHINGTON — The job market turned in another impressive performance in February — the third straight month in which employers added at least 200,000 jobs.

The gains were spread across industries. And the government said December and January, already two of the best months for jobs since the recession, were even stronger than first estimated.

While the term is - naturally - a US import, a report by Sydney recruitment firm Salt & Shein has found areas like public relations and human resources can be practically male-free zones.

Digital Records May Not Cut Health Costs, Study Cautions

Computerized patient records are unlikely to cut health care costs and may actually encourage doctors to order expensive tests more often, a study published on Monday concludes. 

 

Industry experts have said that electronic health records could generate huge savings — as much as $80 billion a year, according to a RAND Corporation estimate. The promise of cost savings has been a major justification for billions of dollars in federal spending to encourage doctors to embrace digital health records. 

Small Apple tablet chatter gets louder from suppliers

Don't believe Apple will release a small tablet? Maybe not. But that hasn't stopped a constant trickle of reports citing Asia-based suppliers who are reportedly gearing up to make parts for the device in the third quarter of this year. 

AU Optronics and LG Display will supply the 7.85-inch screen for the Apple device, according to Taipei-based Economic Daily News--that report was cited in the Macotakara blog in a post dated March 6. 

Next iPad will be the iPad HD, not the iPad 3

CNET has learned that Apple's next tablet will be called the iPad HD instead of the iPad 3. 

A developer who's previously provided reliable information with respect to things Apple and otherwise tells us the next iPad uses the HD moniker instead of going with "iPad 3." 

Russians Vote for President

Russians are choosing a president for the fifth time since the collapse of the Soviet Union, 20 years ago. Opinion polls indicate Vladimir Putin is considered the leading candidate for a job that could keep him in the Kremlin through 2018.  

In voting from the Pacific to the Baltic, turnout appears strong. Three months ago, Russia’s parliamentary elections were clouded by charges of widespread fraud. To combat fraud this time, more than 200,000 people are volunteering as poll watchers, and one million more are registered to watch the voting on web cameras installed in all of Russia’s polling places.
