Actors find
their scenes left on the cutting room floor all the time. But Lourdes
Leon, Madonna's 15-year-old daughter, can't go home and cry to mom about
being chopped out of a film -- it was mom who did the chopping.
Madonna's
film "W.E." traces the romance of Wallis Simpson and English King
Edward VIII, as idealized by a modern New York woman, Wally Winthrop.
Lourdes had been cast as a teen Winthrop in one scene.
"I just kind of dragged her in at the last minute. It was quite unfair of me what I did and what I asked her to do," Madonna told MTV.
But
when it comes to cutting scenes, directors must be ruthless. "She was
really great and then I ended up cutting her out of the film. Ruthless, I
know," Madonna told the site. "I said, 'Sorry babe, you're on the
cutting room floor.' She took it like a champ."
Hey, maybe she'll make the deleted scenes portion of the DVD.
Madonna
directed, produced and co-wrote "W.E.," and her song, "Masterpiece,"
appears in the closing credits. While she won a Golden Globe for the
song (much to Elton John and husband's dismay), it is ineligible for an Oscar because it's the second, not first, song in the closing credits.
