Steve Jones and Nicole Scherzinger won't be on the next series of the US X Factor, the Fox network has confirmed.
Jones, who hosted the show's debut season, tweeted that it was a "shame" but added, "I can't complain as I've had a great time".Former Pussycat Dolls' singer Scherzinger, a judge on the show, has yet to respond to the news
.
The viewing figures for the show fell short of 20 million predicted by its creator, Simon Cowell.
He recently admitted he'd been "too arrogant" after a successful 2010 and promised to revamp the US version of the programme.
The status of the other judges, Paula Abdul and music producer L.A. Reid, is still to be confirmed.
Jones, 34, announced the news to his Twitter followers early on Tuesday morning but gave no explanation for the decision.
"I won't be hosting next season's X Factor which is a shame," said the Welshman. "But I can't complain as I've had a great time. Good luck to everyone on the show."
The former T4 presenter and model was originally lined up to co-host the show alongside Scherzinger.
However, the singer was moved to the judging panel to replace Cheryl Cole after producers decided the British singer wasn't right for the series.
Speaking to the Mirror last week, Cowell hinted that Jones's time was up: "He got a lot of stick. I don't think he did a bad job but, like America's Got Talent, there is a Brit limit on the show."
The US X Factor pulled in 12.5 million people for its opening show in September 2011 and achieved consistent ratings.
But it still trailed far behind its big rival, American Idol, which got 26 million for its season opener.
Despite falling short of Cowell's expectations, the show is due back for a second series later this year.
